This lesson aims to relate the global food system to students’ daily life, starting from reflecting on what they have eaten for breakfast to asking where all the ingredients came from. This approach naturally connects personal experiences to global issues.

Tracing the ingredients of pizza and hamburgers (Slides 6-8)
Materials: Student material: 1.1 From where?
Now we’re going to investigate 2 very popular food items that might have come up in some of the lists students prepared.
Ask the students for the ingredients and list them as the students share. Slide 6 contains lists of the basic ingredients.
A question appears at the bottom of Slide 8: Where do these ingredients come from?
Students can hypothesize or share their thoughts at this point, but ask them to take a worksheet home (Student material: 1.1 From where?) and find out.
