Each of the three Grand Challenge units is accompanied by digital teacher and student versions of the curriculum materials, supplies and equipment. Paper versions can be provided if needed. The teacher materials are educative, giving the teachers additional background knowledge on the relevant scientific ideas and practices, pedagogical options that can enhance student engagement, identifying possible student difficulties, and insights into the rationale behind the units’ structures.
The educative features appear as pop-up
windows, so each teacher has the option of
following them or ignoring them. The units
promote students’ motivation, engagement, and
self-efficacy by being carefully sequenced to
challenge the students, but not be too challenging.
