Instructional Sequence

Materials:

Teacher slides: 5.2 If I want to have a more sustainable and healthy diet, what should I do?

What can we do (Slides 2-5)

Based on the group’s discussion from the previous lesson, show them the figure on slide 3. Food waste happens in homes (private places) and supermarkets and restaurants (public places). You can connect here to the Lesson set 3 discussion and food diary activity.

Now ask students to share ideas from their discussion that can be adopted on both an individual and a community level.

Notes

  • Slide 4  has an empty table for their ideas. Ask students to copy the table to their notebooks.
  • Slide 5 contains some ideas and can be kept in “hide” mode.

Small group discussion

Additional impacts of food (slide 6)

Beyond environmental impacts, let’s summarize by considering additional impacts on food production and the food system. Ask students to think about how they are linked and what additional impacts they think we should add.

Systems modeling

To summarize what students learned in the unit, students will revise provided models. This will enable them to understand complex systems better, refine their models to match real-world scenarios, and make informed decisions based on improved system representations.
